I am currently a teen services librarian at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Greenwell Springs Regional Branch in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I moved here after completing my Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of South Carolina. After spending my first year with the library working in Teen Services at the downtown branch library, I transferred to the Main Library to work as a reference and technology librarian. While at Main, I also worked for several months in the Genealogy and Local History department. I have since moved back to teen services at a branch library.
I have always been passionate about history, education and the value of books in all of their forms. I also love how quickly we can access information through the immediacy of the web, especially social networks like Facebook and Twitter. I love that I can serve the local community by helping individuals with their information needs/ No matter if it’s college students, retirees or teenagers, I like the opportunity to teach research skills and help whoever I interact with to be a more informed person.
I studied History and Classics as an undergraduate. Little did I know that the research skills I developed would lead me to my chosen career in library and information science. I have also spent a large part of my working life in the retail/customer service industry. I believe this experience is invaluable to anyone who works in libraries.
